(More customer reviews)When the manufacturer says "whisper quiet", they mean "whisper quiet if you've lost the upper half of your hearing". I bought this fan to use near my desk which has a rather-noisy computer already, however this fan is the loudest thing in the room. Even the "low" setting has a solid whine/hum, unfortunately. A personal fan needs to be quiet enough to not be distracting and annoying a full 8 feet away.
One other tricky bit: The base attaches and clicks in once insecurely, but then must be twisted and popped in (much more securely) a bit past the first position. If your fan is falling apart when you try to turn it, check that.
