(More customer reviews)I ordered this heater to take the chill off an unheated, uninsulated three-car garage in Michigan that I use as a woodworking shop. The garage measures 22' x 32' x 9'. I hung the heater from the ceiling, centered above my workbench and tablesaw. It warms the worksurface and the items directly beneath it, and keeps me warm enough when I am working there that I do not need a jacket, cap, or gloves despite subfreezing temperatures outside. Because it is a radiant heater, however, it does not warm the air, so the rest of the shop remains cold. Bottom line: it does what I hoped it would do.
The heater arrived in three parts in one box: the body of the heater prewired with cord and plug (220V 15A), the quartz heating element, and a bag containing chains and mounting hardware. Unfortunately, the quartz heating element, which was packed inside the box in bubble wrap in a shipping tube, was broken. I called ProQuest Maintenance Supply, the actual supplier, who shipped a new heating element next day air with no questions asked. Their representative was extremenly polite. Definitely a company to put on your supplier list.
The heating element is a little tricky to install because you cannot touch the quartz tube (the oil from your skin can damage it, similar to a halogen bulb). I installed it by leaving the bubble wrap loose but in place until the heater was hung from the ceiling. Additionally, the element is supported in the ends of the heater by the clear portion of the tube, which seems a little iffy to me. Also, the chains are strong enough to support the weight of the heater but not much more; I was able to pull the links apart by hand.
