It has average heat output (compared to other 1500w space heaters), you'd never really use half the elements by turning only one switch on (notice the two switches on the front controling the heat output - not the fan) so both switches on all the time for this heater. The fan is a little noisy (will not wake you up but might prevent you from going to sleep) and the thermostat is too eager, meaning it cycles the heater on and off a bit too frequently so it seems there is only 1 or 2 degrees F. of a span. A properly calibrated thermostat should run the heater a little higher than the temperature desired and only start it again a little lower than the temperature set, so that the off cycles at least, are say 5'-10' apart. Also it is not a ceramic heater so in very cold rooms you might need a pot of water in the room or in front of it to bring the humidity up. But, the characteristic that made me buy the DeLonghi DUH500L is that it is ALL METAL and apart from the initial odor break-in period (20'), there is no toxic plastic odor coming out. To me that is a big plus and most ceramic heaters having a plastic housing do smell forever. I'd pay $50 if it had a quieter fan (or at least two fan speeds) and a better thermostat. But for $20 it does the job in an average sized bedroom without any health concerns.
