Never have to worry about fire or actual burns with this, it is hot to the touch but not really enough to burn your hand. Now I have it in my office and it works great. You are supposed to install this on an internal wall (because its cold outside of an external wall making it work harder) but the only wall I have in here is a wall to the outside but it still works just fine. Wish I had one in every room of my house. Only downfall is it does't move the air around the bottom 2-3 feet of the room so wear slippers or run a small desk fan to circulate the air. Also if you leave this on you don't have to worry about burning your house down or using more than 400 watts.
